Noor Muqaddam Case: Zahir Jaffer Inflicted with Death Penalty
ISLAMABAD: On Thursday, penalized a death sentence on Zahid Jaffer for being accused of the murder of Noor Muqaddam. His two accomplices, watchman Muhammad Iftikhar and gardener Muhammad Jan were imprisoned for 10 years.
However, his parents, Zakir Jaffer and Ismat Adamjee along with the Therapists employees were proven not guilty and all the charges were dropped by an Additional Session Judge Atta Rabbani.
The accused was put on death row under section 302(b) (premeditated murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) by a short order issued by the Judge.
Although, the death penalty is to be confirmed by the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
Zahir was also found guilty of rape and was sentenced to 25 years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 200,000 according to section 376 (punishment for rape_ of the PPC.
The order reads, "He is directed to pay Rs. 500,000 to the legal heir of the deceased as required under Section 544-A of the CrPC [Criminal Procedure Code], in case of non-payment of [the] compensation amount, it shall be realized arrears of land revenue. In case of non-realization, the convict shall have to undergo six months [in jail]."
Zahir can appeal against the verdict in the Islamabad High Court within seven days, according to the judge.
Iftikhar & Muhammad were both sentenced to 10 years imprisonment and Rs. 100,00 fine each for the confinement of a kidnapped person (Section 368), one-month imprisonment for keeping public servants in dark ( Section 176), and 7 years of imprisonment with a fine of Rs. 100,000 for concealing a plan of committing a crime punishable with death or life imprisonment (Section 118).
Justice Won:
Noor's father, Shaukat Muqaddam, said that the court's verdict was a victory for justice.
He further said that the entire nation was praying for justice and also thanked the media for keeping the case open. A retired diplomat said Zahir was given an "exemplary punishment".
